Grant syndrome

Grant syndrome is a rare disorder that shows similarities to osteogenesis imperfecta. It was first described in two patients and is marked by several distinct features including persistent wormian bones, blue areas in the sclera of the eyes, underdeveloped lower jaw (mandibular hypoplasia), a shallow socket in the shoulder blade (glenoid fossa), and bending of long bones (campomelia). Because only a few cases have been reported since its initial description in 1986, understanding of the condition remains very limited. People with this condition may experience a range of bone-related abnormalities that affect their overall skeletal structure.

The main symptoms described in Grant syndrome include persistent wormian bones, blue sclera (the white part of the eye having a bluish tint), underdeveloped lower jaw (mandibular hypoplasia), shallow glenoid fossae, and campomelia, which is the bending of the long bones in the arms or legs. These symptoms are primarily related to the bones and facial structure.

Grant syndrome is described as an osteogenesis imperfecta-like disorder; however, the specific causes of the condition remain unclear. There is no currently known genetic mutation or specific risk factor identified.
