Legg-Calve-Perthes disease

Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is a condition that affects the hip region in children. It is characterized by the loss of blood supply (avascular necrosis) to the femoral head, which is the ball at the top of the thigh bone. This loss of blood supply can affect one or both hips, leading to weakening and potential deformities of the hip bone. This condition typically is seen in children and can result in pain and limited movement in the hip. Although the exact cause is not fully clear, a small number of cases have been linked to genetic changes, particularly in the COL2A1 gene.
