Eales disease

Eales disease is an inflammatory condition affecting the veins of the retina. It is characterized by three stages: vasculitis (inflammation of the blood vessels), occlusion (blockage of these vessels), and retinal neovascularization (the formation of new, abnormal blood vessels). These changes can lead to repeated bleeding into the vitreous, the clear gel that fills the eye, and may eventually cause vision loss. The condition is described as idiopathic, which means that the cause is unknown. The pattern of inflammation, blood vessel blockage, and new vessel growth forms the basis for the disease process in Eales disease.

People with Eales disease often experience recurrent bleeding into the vitreous, which can result in episodes of vision loss. The underlying inflammation and abnormal blood vessel growth in the retina are linked with these symptoms.

Eales disease is considered idiopathic, meaning that the exact cause of the condition is unknown. There is currently no clear evidence linking it to specific genetic factors or external risk factors.
