Lynch syndrome 2

Lynch syndrome 2 is an inherited condition that increases the risk of several types of cancer. It is caused by changes (pathogenic variants) in the MLH1 mismatch repair gene. This condition follows an autosomal dominant pattern, which means it can be passed from one generation to the next. People with this condition have a higher risk for colorectal cancer without a large number of polyps. In addition, they may also face an increased risk of cancers in the endometrium, ovaries, stomach, small intestine, and urinary tract. These cancers often occur at younger ages than typically seen in the general population.

People with Lynch syndrome 2 may not experience specific symptoms early on. The condition mainly increases the risk of developing cancers, so symptoms will largely depend on which organ is affected.
