Neuhauser anomaly is a rare heart and blood vessel condition. It happens because the aorta, the main blood vessel, does not develop in the usual way during early growth, which can lead to a right-sided aortic arch and a left ligamentum arteriosum. This condition can cause pressure on the windpipe and esophagus, leading to breathing and swallowing problems. The abnormal structure may lead to symptoms such as stridor, difficulty breathing (dyspnea), trouble swallowing (dysphagia), episodes where breathing stops (apnoea), and repeated lung infections.

People with Neuhauser anomaly may have various symptoms due to pressure on the trachea and esophagus. Common signs include noisy breathing (stridor), trouble breathing (dyspnea), difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), episodes of stopped breathing (apnoeic episodes), and recurring respiratory infections.

Neuhauser anomaly is caused by a maldevelopment of the embryonal aorta. This unusual development results in an aorta that forms on the right side and a left ligamentum arteriosum, which can compress nearby structures like the trachea and esophagus.
