Banki syndrome

Banki syndrome is a rare condition described in a single Hungarian family affecting multiple generations. People with this condition showed abnormal bone formation in the wrist and hand. The condition includes a fusion between certain wrist bones as well as differences in the shape and length of the fingers and metacarpal bones. The unique findings include lunotriquetral synostosis (fusion of wrist bones), clinodactyly (curved finger), clinometacarpy, brachymetacarpy (short metacarpal bones), and leptometacarpy (a thin shaft of one of the metacarpal bones). The syndrome appears to result from a dominant mutation, and no additional cases have been described since the original report in 1965.

In the reported family, symptoms included bone fusion in the wrist (lunotriquetral synostosis) and various abnormalities in the fingers and hand bones, including clinodactyly, clinometacarpy, brachymetacarpy, and leptometacarpy.
