A carcinoma that arises from the lung and is characterized by the presence of malignant glandular epithelial cells. There is a male predilection with a male to female ratio of 2:1. Usually lung adenocarcinoma is asymptomatic and is identified through screening studies or as an incidental radiologic finding. If clinical symptoms are present they include shortness of breath, cough, hemoptysis, chest pain, and fever. Tobacco smoke is a known risk factor.
Biomarker and diagnostic research for lung adenocarcinoma has been reported in the published literature.
86 clinical trials registered, 45 recruiting. Interventions under study include drug therapy, other interventions, procedural interventions, and biologic therapy. Pipeline includes 10 PHASE3, 24 PHASE2, 14 PHASE1. Research is sponsored by a mix of industry and academic institutions.

A rare case study highlights tumor-to-tumor metastasis, where clear cell renal cell carcinoma metastasizes into lung adenocarcinoma. This finding contributes to the understanding of cancer behavior and potential treatment implications.
This publication presents two case reports of advanced lung adenocarcinoma with complex genetic alterations, including EGFR exon 19 deletion, T790M mutation, STRN::ALK fusion, and EGFR kinase domain duplication. The findings contribute to the understanding of peritoneal metastasis in this cancer subtype.
A case report details an autopsy-confirmed giant pleural hematoma resulting from spontaneous hemothorax in a patient with ALK-rearranged and TP53-mutant lung adenocarcinoma. This study contributes to the understanding of complications associated with specific genetic mutations in lung cancer.
