Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as stress cardiomyopathy, broken heart syndrome, or apical ballooning syndrome, is an acute cardiac condition that closely resembles acute myocardial infarction. It is characterized by transient left ventricular dysfunction, ischemic chest symptoms, electrocardiographic ST-segment changes, and elevated cardiac biomarkers, occurring in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease. The syndrome was described relatively recently and its precise prevalence is unknown in this packet.
